When Michel Parmigiani established Parmigiani Fleurier in 1996, the Toric was the foundational cornerstone of his aesthetic philosophy, celebrated for its harmonious proportions inspired by classical Greek Doric columns and the Golden Ratio. In 2024, the Maison unveiled a ground-up reimagining of the Toric lineage, stripping away unnecessary excess to focus purely on artisanal craftsmanship and mechanical purity. Standing at the apex of this historic relaunch is the Toric Chronograph Rattrapante (Reference PFH951-2010001-300181): a strictly limited commission of only 30 examples manufactured worldwide, commanding an original U.S. retail price of $169,000.

The Movement: Solid 18K Rose Gold Calibre PF361-SLIM

While conventional split-seconds chronographs utilize modular additions or brass-plated movements, Parmigiani constructed the PF361-SLIM calibre entirely from solid 18K rose gold. Visible in all its glory through the expansive sapphire exhibition caseback, this integrated, manually wound split-seconds racing engine beats at a high frequency of 5 Hz (36,000 vibrations per hour):

  • Integrated Double Column-Wheel: Operates two superimposed central chronograph hands with ultra-crisp tactile actuation, allowing split-second intermediate interval timing.
  • Artisanal Hand-Finish: The openworked 18K rose-gold bridges feature satin-brushed surfaces, mirror-polished hand-chamfered bevels, and exposed polished steel levers.
  • Endurance: Engineered with 285 individual components and 35 jewels, offering an expansive 65-hour power reserve.

The Dial & Case: Hand-Grained Natural Umber on Solid Gold

The 42.5mm case is fashioned from solid 18K rose gold, framed by Parmigiani’s signature hand-knurled Toric bezel. The understated dial is an artisanal canvas crafted from a plate of solid 18K rose gold, treated with a delicate hand-grained technique to achieve its organic Natural Umber hue. It is punctuated by hand-applied 18K rose-gold indexes, slender rose-gold hands, and dual subdials for running seconds and chronograph elapsed minutes, fitted to a hand-stitched sand-gold nubuck alligator leather strap with an 18K rose-gold pin buckle.
