Introduced as the Maison's dedicated masculine sports-luxury line, the Calibre de Cartier represents an essential milestone in modern horology as the collection that launched Cartier's first true proprietary in-house base movement. While the original 42mm iteration offered imposing wrist presence, Reference WSCA0003 was introduced in an expertly sized 38mm silhouette, bringing balanced classical proportions, reduced thickness, and universal ergonomics to the architecture. Now officially discontinued, the 38mm Calibre de Cartier is recognized as one of the most distinctive and difficult-to-source modern references from the brand.

The Craft: Sculpted 38mm Steel & In-House Calibre 1904-PS MC

The 38mm stainless steel case measures a slender 9.26mm in thickness, featuring curved, ergonomic downward-sweeping lugs that hug the wrist comfortably, robust crown guards, and Cartier’s signature faceted winding crown set with a synthetic blue spinel:

  • The Dial: A silvered sunray-brushed flinqué surface accented by an oversized XII and stylized black Roman numerals.
  • The Handset: Faceted blued-steel sword hands delivering instant legibility and unmistakable Cartier pedigree.
  • The Subdial & Date: A recessed small-seconds subdial at 6 o'clock balances the framed calendar date window at 3 o'clock.

Named in tribute to 1904, the historic year Louis Cartier crafted the first modern wristwatch for aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont, this automatic engine features twin mainspring barrels for constant torque stability, Geneva striping (Côtes de Genève) across the bridges and rotor, and a 48-hour power reserve.
