The Story

In the mid-2000s, IWC Schaffhausen joined forces with Mercedes-AMG, establishing one of the most genuine and mechanically focused partnerships in luxury automotive and horological history. The IWC Ingenieur Chronograph AMG (Ref. IW3725) was among the very first timepieces created to commemorate this alliance. Drawing direct architectural lineage from Gérald Genta’s legendary 1976 Ingenieur SL, this reference discards heavy stainless steel in favor of aerospace-grade titanium—mirroring the weight-saving, high-performance ethos of AMG road engines to create an imposing, ultra-comfortable motorsport statement piece.

The Craft: Titanium Metallurgy & Integrated Genta Geometry

The 42.5mm case is crafted entirely from solid titanium, finished with an even, satin-brushed texture that absorbs glare and delivers exceptional scratch and corrosion resistance. The bezel features the iconic five signature recesses derived from Genta’s original tool-watch architecture, paired with low-profile, ergonomic chronograph pushers.

The matte black dial is built for instant legibility at high speeds. It features bold white Arabic numerals, red-accented sub-dial hands, a central chronograph seconds hand with a red tip, and an outer flange printed with a precision tachymeter scale for calculating velocity. The bicompax sub-dial layout places the 30-minute counter at 12 o'clock and the 12-hour counter at 6 o'clock.

Beneath the solid titanium caseback—deeply engraved with the official Mercedes-AMG emblem—beats the robust IWC Automatic Chronograph Calibre 79350. Operating at 28,800 vph with a 44-hour power reserve, this high-beat engine features integrated shock absorption and a screw-down crown providing a dependable water resistance rating of 120 meters (400 feet).
