Originally engineered in 1931 for British polo players who required a resilient wristwatch that could survive mallet impacts, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso stands as an unshakeable pillar of Art Deco horology. In the 2000s, JLC unveiled the Squadra series—transforming the slender rectangular profile into a bold, square-proportioned sports architecture. Reference 230.8.45 represents one of the most mechanically accomplished executions in the collection’s history. Now discontinued, it combines the patented swiveling case with an integrated automatic chronograph, large double-digit date, and 24-hour second time zone (GMT) complication, creating an imposing statement piece for the collector who demands high-complication utility with unmistakable wrist presence.

The Craft: Swiveling Steel Architecture & In-House Calibre 754

The stainless steel case features classic horizontal gadroons and sharp Art Deco step bevels, flanked by ergonomic rectangular chronograph pushers. A smooth push slides and pivots the central case module inside its carriage.

The silver dial is a study in high-density functionality and symmetrical balance:

12 o’clock: Large double-window date display (Grand Date).
3 o’clock & 9 o’clock: Integrated 30-minute and 12-hour chronograph registers.

Unlike traditional solid-back Reversos, flipping the reversible case reveals the mechanical mastery through a scratch-resistant sapphire exhibition caseback: the Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 754. Composed of 39 jewels and operating at a high frequency of 28,800 vph, this automatic column-wheel chronograph movement provides an approximate 65-hour power reserve. The movement is finished with Côtes de Genève stripes, circular graining, and a skeletonized winding rotor.
