Chanel Coco Game at Watches and Wonders 2026: The Complete Collection, From the Diamond Chessboard to the J12
Published July 4, 2026 · Watches and Wonders 2026 coverage · By Honeyrock Luxury Editorial
Every Watches and Wonders produces one object the entire fair talks about and almost no one will ever own. In 2026, that object was a chessboard. Chanel arrived in Geneva with a one-off haute horlogerie chess set carrying 9,236 diamonds, and it was sold before the fair's press coverage had finished publishing (MyWatchSite, May 2026).
The chessboard was the opening move of Coco Game, a capsule of 14 highly limited timepieces conceived by Arnaud Chastaingt, director of Chanel's Watch Creation Studio. Designed at Place Vendôme in Paris and assembled at the Chanel Watch Manufacture in La Chaux-de-Fonds, the collection explores time through gaming codes: chessmen, playing cards, charms, pixel figures, and the maison's black-and-white signature, with Gabrielle Chanel herself as the central figure (Ohlala Magazine, May 2026; Bagaholicboy, April 2026).
Here is the full collection, piece by piece, with every price Chanel has announced.
Chanel Coco Game, in brief:
- A 14-piece limited capsule unveiled at Watches and Wonders 2026, built on gaming codes and Chanel's black-and-white signature.
- The centerpiece: the world's first haute horlogerie chessboard, a one-off with 9,236 diamonds (approximately 111 carats). Price upon request, already sold.
- Announced prices run from the J12 28 mm at €4,700 to the J12 Superleggera Calibre 12.1 at €12,900, with the high jewellery pieces on request.
- Two dials hide in plain sight: the chess queens conceal quartz movements beneath their pedestals, and the Prémière ring flips a diamond to reveal the time.
The Chessboard: The Power of the Unique
Obsidian, Ceramic, and 111 Carats
The base is hewn from obsidian, a glass-like volcanic stone. The board above it, 37.9 cm across, alternates black and white high-performance ceramic squares and is framed by a border of 516 diamonds totalling almost 16 carats. Across the complete set, board and all 32 chessmen, Chanel used 9,236 diamonds, approximately 111 carats (MyWatchSite, May 2026). The black pieces are sculpted in high-performance ceramic with white gold touches set with diamonds. The white pieces are carved from white gold, also diamond-set (Ohlala Magazine, May 2026).
Every Piece Is Chanel Mythology
The kings are lions, Mademoiselle's emblem. The rooks replicate the Vendôme Column at the heart of the square where Chanel designs its watches. The bishops take the form of dressmakers' busts. And Gabrielle Chanel herself appears as the queen on both sides of the board.
Only the Queen Tells Time
Of all 32 pieces, only the two queens keep time. Each houses a quartz movement with the dial discreetly integrated into her base, concealed beneath her iconic slingbacks. Lift the queen from the board and she converts to a long necklace on a chain of white gold, onyx, and diamonds (MyWatchSite; Ohlala Magazine, May 2026). Price upon request. Already sold.

The Secret-Keepers: Gabrielle Watch, Long Necklace, and the Prémière Ring

The Gabrielle Watch: Tweed, Rendered in Diamonds
Limited to 10 pieces, the Gabrielle Watch captures Mademoiselle in her most iconic pose, stepping beyond the dial in a diamond-set tweed suit created with Chanel's "tweed setting" technique. The 43 mm case, caseback, and bezel are 18-carat white gold, the bezel set with 30 brilliant-cut diamonds. On the black lacquered dial, her sculpture in white gold carries 461 brilliant-cut diamonds (4.41 carats) on an onyx plate, surrounded by two rows of white gold set with a further 119 brilliants (1.76 carats). Total diamond weight: 6.66 carats, on a high-precision quartz movement (Ohlala Magazine, May 2026).
The Gabrielle Long Necklace
Its counterpart transforms her into a wearable talisman. Suspended in white gold, onyx, and diamonds, the necklace reveals the hour with a simple twist (Bagaholicboy, April 2026).
The Prémière Coco Game Ring: Heads or Tails
The most playful object in the capsule is a ring built on duality. One side gleams with a baguette-cut diamond. Flip the central stone and the iconic Prémière dial appears (Bagaholicboy, April 2026). Clever, discreet, and quietly theatrical: a secret watch in the oldest tradition of the genre.
The Playing Cards: Boy·Friend and Prémière
Boy·Friend Coco Game: The Queen of Hearts
On the pure white dial of the Boy·Friend, Gabrielle Chanel appears as the Queen of Hearts on a playing card: black-trimmed tweed suit, boater hat, layered pearls, her silhouette softened by two gold-colored heart-shaped appliqués. The black-coated steel case measures 34.6 by 26.7 mm, 7.3 mm thick, on a white calfskin strap with black patent trim, powered by a Swiss quartz movement. Limited to 55 pieces at €7,500, with a version carrying 38 baguette-cut diamonds (1.47 carats) on the bezel for those who want the drama (MyWatchSite; Ohlala Magazine, May 2026).
Prémière Coco Game: Spelling It Out
The mini Prémière plays a word game. Six charms in black-coated steel, white lacquer, and sapphire crystal spell C-H-A-N-E-L along the chain bracelet, which is interwoven with a white calfskin ribbon. Offered in three sizes at €7,850 (MyWatchSite, May 2026).

Three Ways to Play
The capsule's J12 pieces bring the game to Chanel's flagship sports watch. The J12 X-Ray Coco Game is carved in sapphire crystal with floating mechanics that require seven days to assemble. The J12 Coco Game Charms hangs a pixelated Mademoiselle, rendered in arcade-game style, from the crown. And the J12 Coco Game animates her across the dial itself, walking the seconds away (Bagaholicboy, April 2026).
The 2026 J12 Line Beneath the Capsule
Alongside the capsule, Chanel refreshed the core J12 line. The J12 Superleggera Calibre 12.1 revives the automotive-inspired 2005 original in a 42 mm matt black ceramic and black-coated steel case: COSC-certified chronometer, 70-hour power reserve, 200 metres of water resistance, date by red pointer, at €12,900. The J12 Golden Black duo warms black ceramic with yellow gold-plated indices, €11,400 in the mechanical 42 mm and €6,300 in the quartz 28 mm. And the J12 28 mm, in black or white ceramic, opens the range at €4,700 (MyWatchSite, May 2026).
The Sentence of Respect
The Calibre 12.1 inside the Superleggera and the Golden Black 42 mm is produced by Kenissi, the Swiss movement manufacture Chanel co-owns. That fact is the reason serious collectors stopped filing Chanel under fashion watches some years ago. A chronometer-certified ceramic sports watch with a 70-hour reserve is a real instrument, whatever the logo on the dial.
The Honeyrock View
Chanel entered watchmaking in 1987 with the Prémière, conceived as jewellery that happened to tell the time. The J12 changed the equation in 2000, and the co-ownership of Kenissi settled the argument: Chanel is now a watchmaker in its own right (MyWatchSite, May 2026). Coco Game is what that confidence looks like. A maison that no longer needs to prove its movements can afford to spend a fair on play.
The chessboard also tells you where the top of the market is heading. Luxury at this level is no longer competing on the flagship reference. It is competing on the unique object, the piece that exists once and sells before the fair closes. When a one-off with a price upon request finds its buyer in days, the signal for the entire watch market is that scarcity and story remain the strongest currencies in horology.
We admire the theater. We deal in the watches you actually wear. Vetted, documented, on your wrist.
