The IWC Ingenieur Automatic Carbon Performance is a visceral tribute to the high-octane world of Formula 1 racing. Developed during IWC's celebrated era as the official engineering partner of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team, this radical timepiece takes Gérald Genta’s signature 1970s Ingenieur silhouette and rebuilds it using genuine motorsport materials. Strictly limited to 1,000 pieces worldwide, this reference completely bypasses traditional watchmaking metals in favor of a full forged carbon fiber case—the exact same lightweight, high-tensile material used in modern F1 monocoques.

The Craft: Forged Carbon & F1 DNA

Every element of the Ref. IW3224-04 screams performance. The 46mm case is crafted from forged carbon, giving every single watch a completely unique, organic matte black pattern. This is anchored by a scratch-resistant black ceramic bezel held securely by Genta's iconic five exposed screws. The dial itself features an authentic carbon fiber weave that catches the light dynamically, framed by an inner minute track and central seconds hand finished in vibrant AMG green—a direct nod to Formula 1 wet-weather tire markings.

Beneath the carbon dial is the powerhouse In-house IWC Calibre 80110 automatic movement, featuring a highly integrated shock-absorption system and IWC's legendary Pellaton bidirectional pawl-winding mechanism. The movement can be admired through the sapphire exhibition caseback, which proudly bears the engraving "One Out of 1000." Despite its avant-garde construction, the titanium-reinforced case is water-resistant to a robust 120 meters (12 bar).
